No Kings? The Christian Hope in a World Full of Rebellion

If you’ve been watching the news or scrolling online lately, you’ve probably seen the phrase “No Kings!” It’s becoming a common theme in today’s culture. Many people want to live without any authority no government, no police, no God no one telling them what to do. This mindset shows up in various ways: calls to defund the police, tear down legal systems, ignore laws, and reject any form of rule or restraint.

But this rebellion isn’t new. The Bible describes this attitude clearly:

“Why do the nations rage
And the peoples meditate on a vain thing?
The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against Yahweh and against His Anointed, saying,
‘Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!’”
— Psalm 2:1–3

The world does not want God to rule over them. They view His law as bondage and His authority as chains to be broken. They reject both divine and earthly authority because, at the heart of sin, is a desire to be one’s own god (Genesis 3:5).

But as Christians, we do not join in that cry. We do not stand with those who promote lawlessness, rebellion, or disrespect toward authorities whom God has placed in power even when imperfect. Instead, we gladly submit to God’s order because we believe there is a King, and His name is Jesus.

Jesus Is Our King

Even though people reject Him now, Jesus is the true King. One day He will return and rule over everything with perfect justice and peace.

“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings…”
—Revelation 17:14

We don’t have to be afraid of the world’s rebellion. We live with hope, knowing Jesus is already on the throne in heaven. One day, everyone will see Him as King.

God Puts Authorities in Place

While we wait for Jesus to return, God has appointed leaders and governments on earth to maintain order, punish evil, and preserve justice. These authorities are not accidental they are established by God for the good of society.

“Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist have been appointed by God.”
—Romans 13:1

“Be subject to every human institution for the Lord’s sake, whether to a king… or to governors… For such is the will of God…”
—1 Peter 2:13–15

God’s purpose in establishing authority is for the good of society and the protection of the innocent. These leaders are meant to be “God’s servants” to punish evil and reward what is right.

“For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil… for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain.”
—Romans 13:3–4

In other words, God gave authority to governments to restrain evil, carry out justice, and protect those who do good. This applies to all people not just believers because law and order are a gift of God’s common grace to the whole world.

As Christians, we follow the law, pay taxes, show respect, and live in peace as much as we can. It’s one way we honor God and point others to the true King Jesus. When we live obedient and respectful lives, we reflect His character and bring glory to Him, even in a broken world.

“Honor all people, love the brethren, fear God, honor the king.”
—1 Peter 2:17

But What If Authorities Go Against God?

There may be times when leaders ask us to do something that goes against God’s Word. In those cases, we must obey God instead of man.

“But Peter and the apostles answered and said, ‘We must obey God rather than men.’”
—Acts 5:29

Even then, we don’t act in anger or rebellion. We humbly stand for what is right, trusting God with the results.

We Belong to Another Kingdom

Christians are citizens of heaven. Our ultimate loyalty is to King Jesus, not any government or movement here on earth.

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
—Philippians 3:20

This world is temporary. So while we live here, we live faithfully loving others, doing good, and waiting for Jesus to come back.

In the End, Jesus Will Reign

No matter how loud the world cries “No Kings,” Jesus is coming to rule. And when He does, there will be no more injustice, no more rebellion only peace and truth.

“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He will reign forever and ever.”
—Revelation 11:15

Until that day, let’s live in a way that honors Him. Let’s submit to the authorities He’s placed over us, unless they go against His commands. And let’s boldly proclaim to the world that our King is coming.

“Now to the King of the ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
—1 Timothy 1:17

However, as this is a blog, my goal is to encourage and inform, providing a starting point for your own studies. While I can offer explanations and guidance, true understanding comes through God the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). Remember to please pray and ask God for wisdom and understanding, as recorded in James 1:5. If this blog has helped you in any way, be an encouragement by leaving a comment.
