A few years ago at work, I took the Gallup Strengths assessment, a tool often used in business to help people understand their talents and work better with others. My results highlighted my top strengths, which gave me insights into how I approach challenges and collaborate. But over time, I’ve come to see these traits as more than just workplace tools; they reflect something greater about how I am uniquely designed. Viewed through a faith perspective, these strengths resonate with a sense of purpose that goes beyond my job. Here’s how each one reminds me of a calling to serve and glorify God in all aspects of life.
1. Belief: A Foundation Beyond Myself
Belief is my core strength and the foundation of everything I do. Gallup describes people with Belief as those driven by core values, living with purpose, and pursuing goals that align with these convictions. For me, this strength is more than an internal compass—it’s a reflection of a much greater truth.
I see my Belief as rooted in God’s direction for my life, trusting that He guides each step according to His will. As Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This conviction shapes each decision, leading me beyond my own understanding toward the purpose He has ordained.
Rather than being driven by personal ideals alone, my life rests on the knowledge that I am “His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand” (Ephesians 2:10). This belief provides a steady foundation, grounded in a calling and purpose that come not from within, but from a divine plan guiding me forward.
2. Responsibility: Stewardship and Service
Responsibility is about taking ownership of commitments and following through with integrity. People with this strength are dependable, valuing trust and duty. To me, this resonates with the biblical principle of stewardship—using the gifts, resources, and opportunities God has entrusted to me.
My sense of responsibility reminds me of Colossians 3:23, which calls us to “work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” urging us to serve with dedication and integrity in all we do. Stewardship is not just about responsibility to others, but about honoring God with the work He has given us. Luke 12:48 says, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required,” reminding me that my gifts and opportunities come with a call to serve others faithfully. Whether at work, with family, or in my community, this strength calls me to reflect His character by fulfilling my commitments, knowing that ultimately, I am serving Him.
3. Connectedness: Seeing God’s Hand in All Things
Connectedness is about finding relationships and meaning in seemingly unrelated things. People with this strength often sense a bigger picture, believing that everything happens for a reason and finding purpose in connections. This resonates deeply with the truth that nothing in life is random, and that God’s hand is evident in every detail.
I’m reminded of Romans 8:28, which assures us, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” This verse highlights that everything—every moment, relationship, and experience—is part of God’s sovereign plan. When I sense significance in something, whether in people or circumstances, I see it as part of God’s handiwork. Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” It is a comforting reminder that while we make plans, it is God who weaves all things together, making every connection purposeful. Connectedness encourages me to be intentional in recognizing God’s presence in all things, knowing that every relationship and experience has a divine purpose in His grand story.
4. Achiever: Work as Worship
As an Achiever, I’m driven by productivity and a desire to accomplish and make progress. Gallup suggests that Achievers are motivated by tasks, energized by setting goals, and satisfied by completing them. This resonates deeply with the biblical understanding that work is not just a task but an act of worship and service to God.
My drive to achieve reflects God’s call to do all things with excellence, as Colossians 3:23 reminds us: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” This verse emphasizes that our work is not merely for personal gain but as an offering to God. I strive to work diligently, not simply for success, but as a way to honor God, who calls us to “use the gifts that He has given” (1 Peter 4:10). Each accomplishment, big or small, is an opportunity to reflect His glory by fulfilling His purpose in my work. As Proverbs 16:3 teaches, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” In all that I do, I aim to serve Him through my labor, knowing that my work has eternal significance when done for His glory.
5. Learner: A Call to Know and Grow
As a Learner, I’m drawn to acquiring new knowledge and deepening my understanding. For people with this strength, learning isn’t just a means to an end, but a joy in itself. I see my love of learning as a way to better understand God’s world and grow closer to Him, knowing that the pursuit of wisdom is part of our calling as believers.
Scripture encourages us to seek wisdom and discernment in our journey of growth. Proverbs 1:7 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This verse highlights that true knowledge begins with reverence for God. My drive to learn keeps me humble, recognizing how much there is yet to discover about God, His Word, and His creation. James 1:5 further affirms this, saying, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach.” This promise reminds me that learning is not just an intellectual pursuit but a spiritual one, where God Himself is the source of all true wisdom. I’m motivated to keep exploring the richness of faith and life, knowing that God is both the teacher and the reward in this lifelong journey.
A Reflection of God’s Design
These strengths are not random traits but reflections of how God has uniquely designed me to live out my purpose. They serve as a reminder that my motivations and values are shaped by a divine plan far greater than myself. Each strength aligns with the calling God has placed on my life, helping me serve others and live out my faith in ways that feel authentic and purposeful.
While Gallup’s StrengthsFinder gave me a framework to understand and articulate these aspects of my personality, ultimately, it points me back to the Creator who designed me this way. When I embrace these strengths, I am not merely striving for personal success, but living out a higher calling that aligns with the goodness and purpose of God. These strengths are not just traits—they are gifts, and I am grateful to use them for His glory, reflecting His love and fulfilling His purposes in my life.
Note: God’s Word is rich and full of depth—I could write exhaustive pages on each topic. However, as this is a blog, my goal is to encourage and inform, providing a starting point for your own studies. While I can offer explanations and guidance, true understanding comes through God the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). Remember to please pray and ask God for wisdom and understanding, as recorded in James 1:5. If this blog has helped you in any way, be an encouragement by leaving a comment.
